PRESERVING OUR WORLDS

This Project tries to encourage equality between all the people of our society. World population is more international, there are migratory movements. European population has to share values in common and encourage unity between all the members. In the institutions in this Project there are pupils with difficulties or differences. All the pupils will take part in the Project, children with special needs, immigrants and pupils in a social disadvantage.

OBJECTIVES:

-To promote awareness and understanding of ourselves and others as part of a wider Europe through teachers and children to avoid conflicts and any knid of violence.
-To promote foreign language learning within pupils, teachers and parents.
-To promote conservation of our physical and cultural environment, discuss the results of the Project and from them improve the quality of teaching.
-To appreciate the different environmental challenges facing contrasting areas throughout Europe encouraging equal opportunities between pupils especially with speacial needs pupils.To reinforce creativity with several media and the development of innovative ICT- based content.

Sept/Oct 2008 INTRODUCTIONS
Introduction of pupils to each other by completing a form on themselves e.g. name, family, hobbies, favourite subjects in national language and English. A sample of forms sent to each school by post.
Name form: Activity 1 form
Oct/Nov 2008 Power point presentation of your school (10 slides as a maximum). Photographs and text provided by the children. 1 copy sent to each school by e-mail
Nov 2008 Meeting of teachers and school visit. Munster
Jan/Feb 2009 LOOKING AFTER OUR HOMES
Presentation on homes and family life. Pupils prepare individual reports on their own homes.
Project should highlight the range of materials used in the home and how any of these are conserved or recycled.
Activity to send:
Photos with text explaining how is our house and how we recycle there. A sample sent to each school e-mail
Mar/abri 2009 Meeting of teachers and school visit. Kilrea
Mar/Apr 2009 LOOKING AFTER OUR AREA
Group presentations on the town/city compiled to form a booklet. Pupils can draw pictures, take photos, write the text on sites of interest around their area. Conservation or recycling projects can be highlighted. 1 copy sent to each school.
May 2009 Meeting of teachers and school visit. Romania
May/June 2009 LOOKING AFTER OURSELVES
Pupils write out the rules and take photos or video footage of games and P.E. activities played in school. Pupils can then try out the games from the other countries. Ask the grandparents. 1 copy sent to each school.

YEAR 2
Sept – Nov.2009 LOCAL PRODUCTS
Pupils choose 3 local products traditional to that area to research. For example:
Spain – Oranges, wine, olives.
N. Ireland – potatoes, milk, whiskey.

Results can be display on a power point show or in booklet form. 1 copy to each school

Jan-Mar 2010 LOCAL INDUSTRY
Groups of pupils research up to 3 wider industries of the area or country and prepare a presentation (Photos and text) in power point or booklet form.
For example:
Spain – fishing
N. Ireland – milk processing, cheese, butter etc.
Italy –
Romania –
Slovakia-
Germany- 1 copy to each country.

May/June 2010 LOCAL TOURISM
Pupils research popular tourist attractions in their area and prepare a presentation in booklet form. This can include the history or stories surrounding the attraction. 1 copy set to each school.
